Quiet tapeDay two of the Sight 9 week brings no read yet, and quotes hold where September's RAPI left them
💎 Polished — Quotes sit where September's RAPI left them, with the 0.50-carat index up 2.5% and the 1-carat index up 0.3% for the month, so the small-stone lead is still the only firmness on the board and there is nothing to requote this morning. The currencies remain within the quoting threshold, with the rupee near 95.2 to the dollar, the shekel at 3.08, and the euro steady.
Gold near $4,030 an ounce is a touch firmer than yesterday, trimming its decline to 3.3% since September 28. That reflects the base date moving forward rather than a recovery and is a jewelry-metal cost signal rather than a stone-price one.
📅 On the radar — De Beers Sight 9 runs through October 30, and the producer does not comment sight by sight, so any read on whether September's small-stone firmness reached rough demand will come from sightholder estimates in the trade press later in the week rather than from today. The October RAPI in early November is the next firm price reading. The JGTD Dubai fair opens today and runs through October 29, while JA New York Fall closes today.
